Breakfast nook

This 1950s Garrison Colonial has seen only three owners in its 70-year history. At some point, the second owners renovated the kitchen, transforming it into a long, narrow galley-style space. Seeking a cozier layout, the current owners wanted a more inviting and functional arrangement. Given the window placement and height, we reimagined the space, dividing it into two distinct areas: a breakfast nook and a separate working kitchen. This separation not only gave each space its own identity but also allowed for a more intimate and practical design, while cohesive interior details visually tie them together. In a delightful twist, the homeowners later discovered old photographs of the house and realized that—unknowingly—we had restored the kitchen to its original layout! The family envisioned a space that felt both cozy and stately, with touches of English charm. To achieve this, we paired custom, moody green cabinetry with a lighter, whimsical floral wallpaper in the breakfast nook, layering in playful textiles to unify the design. Since the original hardwood floors were beyond repair and new ones wouldn’t match the rest of the home, we embraced the opportunity to paint a classic brick red and ivory checkerboard floor—adding character while honoring the home’s storied past.

There is no possible way we could have achieved the look and feel of our kitchen and breakfast room without the expertise and guidance of Caroline and her team. They are knowledgeable, friendly, timely and accommodating. I have recommended her and her network of exceptional tradespeople she connected us with multiple times already and will continue to do so. We are beyond thrilled with our beautiful spaces!
