This 1932 Garrison Colonial underwent a thoughtful transformation, balancing modern functionality with its original charm. One of the biggest improvements was relocating the laundry room from the main level to the second floor—right where it made the most sense, near the bedrooms. The home’s layout also saw major enhancements. What was once a sunroom-turned-closet (with privacy film covering its beautiful original glass windows!) is now a bright, light-filled office, reclaiming its intended purpose and flooding the space with natural light. Upstairs, we reimagined a large bonus room, converting it into a guest suite, a new laundry room, and a vestibule that provides privacy between the two spaces. To give the primary suite a greater sense of retreat, we added a hallway, creating a more defined separation from the children’s rooms. Speaking of the kids’ spaces, we waited until they were old enough to have a say in their own rooms. The son’s space features bold color-blocking to reflect his fun, funky style, while the daughter’s room embraces a more whimsical feel with pink and purple floral wallpaper. Throughout the home, we preserved key historical elements, including the Tennessee marble in the bathrooms, ensuring that the home’s original character remained intact. In the kitchen, we opened it up to the dining room for a more modern flow, while keeping an arched transition to honor the home’s architectural integrity. The result? A home that feels just as functional for today’s living as it does true to its 1930s roots.
